John Morrison is the Chief Operating Officer of Ecoplexus, Inc. a solar company headquartered in San Francisco with offices in North Carolina and Texas. He is oversees the design, construction and maintenance of solar facilities across the country.
Morrison has 30+ years of experience in clean energy. Early in his career he has worked at Pacific Northwest National Labs researching proliferation resistant nuclear fuel cycles, the Electric Power Research Institute where he worked on the relative risks of energy technologies, Radian Corporation scaling up the flue gas scrubber technology and developing technical guidelines for regulations of criteria pollutants, Carolina Power and Light where he founded their solar application unit. More recently he was the COO of Advanced Energy Corporation, the Assistant Secretary for Energy at the NC Department of Commerce. Before joining Ecoplexus in 2015 he was the COO at Strata Solar which he helped grow from a small residential solar company to one of the largest utility scale solar companies in the country.
Morrison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Yale University, a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. Current civic and professional activities include the UNC Presbyterian Campus Ministry board, chair of the NC Clean Energy Business Alliance Political Action Committee and E4 Carolinas board. Former engagements include founding Board member of the NC Clean Energy Business Alliance, the Electric Power Research Institute Advisory Council, Chair of the Association of State Energy Research and Technology Transfer Institutions, Southern State Energy Board, NC State University College of Management Board of Advisors and Board member of the NC Sustainable Energy Association.
Ecoplexus is a solar company which develops, designs, builds and operates solar facilities, primarily in the institution and utility–scale market segments. Customers include government agencies, utilities, and Independent Power Producers. The principals of Ecoplexus have extensive experience in energy services, electricity markets, and finance. The company’s current portfolio includes operating sites in California, Colorado and North Carolina, with a project pipeline encompassing half a dozen additional states.
