Energy Storage Cluster

The Carolinas represents one of the top five clusters of companies and organizations with an energy storage interest in the U.S. In large part this is due to the existence west of Charlotte of the only active lithium mines in the eastern United States. These mines have operated for some time and remain active, clustering energy storage supply chain members in association with the mining companies. South Carolina has a long history of hydrogen research and fuel cell development. Companies and organizations in this cluster include lithium miners and processors, battery and battery component manufacturers, hydrogen and fuel cell producers and users, hydro storage and power generation and novel storage technologies.

E4 Carolinas will facilitate growth of the Energy Storage Cluster through inventorying and mapping, cluster member engagement, creation of a plan to apply cluster assets to new opportunity and plan implementation to attract companies, start new companies and grow existing companies which are cluster members.
